The
Artie Shaw Orchestra
Conducted by Rich Chiaraluce
"This is America's classical music" Dick
Johnson says. And he should know; he is the man Artie Shaw chose to
direct his reconstituted band.
Shaw always surrounded himself with men of top-notch
caliber, and continued to make them feel wanted by featuring them in
solo passages just about as much as he featured himself. This trait is
continued for audiences to see. Recognition is still given to the great side
men that are introduced for well earned bows after each number.
Something else is at work here. That is the classical music feel that set Shaw apart from so
many others. He had the best arrangers, but for many of the pieces did
his own arranging, and the sense of it still comes through today.
Following the Shaw legacy the Artie Shaw Orchestra, under the direction
of Rich Chiaraluce, continues with the time-tested formula that has
pleased a full spectrum of audiences for over 60 years; from the "Begin
the Beguine" fans of yesteryear to the new jazz fans who want to enjoy
an exciting evening of Swing. |
